Vodacom customers all over Tanzania can now send money for free from anywhere in Tanzania. This follows the launching of Vodacom Tanzania's M-Pesa campaign today.

Speaking at the launch of the campaign, Vodacom Tanzania's Managing Director Rene Meza said the campaign was his company's small way of thanking the over
4.5 million customers who continue to rely on M-Pesa for their day to day transactions.

Under the promotion, all M-Pesa users will instantly get a refund of their transfer charges on any amount sent to a Vodacom M-Pesa customer. The refunds will be in the form of airtime, and these will be paid
immediately after sending money” says Meza.

He goes on to say that customers would not need to subscribe for this service as it would be available to all prepaid M-PESA
 users in the country.

M-Pesa was launched in Tanzania in April 2008 and has since proved to be an invaluable payment solution moving over Tsh1 Trillion per month around the country. The service has evolved from money transfer service solution to a solution addressing the business and corporate sectors needs to collect cash or disperse payments. Additionally M-Pesa is directly connected to various banks allowing money to be deposited directly into a bank account or funds to be withdrawn from a bank account through any of the 40,000 M-Pesa agents across the country

In October, M-Pesa partnered with Heritage insurance to launch a funeral cover service- Faraja Bima - which has seen great adoption by our customers, says Meza.  Adding that, “we are continually expanding the range of financial services delivered off M-Pesa in response to our customer’s financial needs and pushing back access barriers to bring financial services to those previously excluded.  This what our brand slogan - Power to You - is all about.
